A Cincinnati native and Harvard MBA, Immelt started his career at Procter & Gamble. A protege of legendary CEO Jack Welch, Immelt took the reins at GE when Welch retired. Shortly thereafter, he laid the foundation for GE's "ecomagination initiative," which met with strong resistance from most of the top executives at GE. Immelt overrode the executive committee, which voted against the initiative. Immelt's vision was a success and today, environmental technologies produce more than $16 billion in revenue.
