On the last day of 2008, Clarke was named Vice Chairman of Global Operations after the retirement of Mike Gannon. This position is in addition to his role as head of Dell's Business Client Product Group. Clarke has a tough job ahead of him; sales are down, the economy is weak and HP is a strong competitor. As Dell goes through a massive reorg from geographic alignment to being organized by customer segment, Clarke will have his hands full.
