Biographical Summary
Besanko started his career with 8 years the military, holding a variety of leadership positions in the United States Air Force. He then earned an MBA from the University of Chicago and went to work for Atlantic Richfield. Besanko got into the retail business in 1996, when we took a position with Sears and has been in the industry ever since, holding finance positions with Best Buy, Yankee Candle Company and Circuit City, before landing at OfficeMax in 2009. Besanko is said to be in the running for the top job at OfficeMax now that current CEO Sam Duncan has announced his retirement. His competition is COO Sam Martin. OfficeMax's board said it plans to launch a national search for a new CEO, and Duncan will stay on until a successor is in place.
